What’s the difference between a lollipop and a sucker?
In Australia the two words mean the same thing – hard candy on a stick. “Lollipop” is the term you’ll see on packs at Woolworths, Coles and on our site. “Sucker” is American slang and shows up on US imports and older British sweet shops. Most Aussie shoppers search “lollipop” or “lolly pop”.
The broader Aussie word “lollies” covers all confectionery – gummies, chocolate, licorice and lollipops included. A lollipop is always a lolly, but not every lolly is a lollipop. When a recipe mentions a “sucker”, any stick lollipop on this page works.

Lollipop FAQs
Quick answers Aussie shoppers ask before buying in bulk.
What’s the best lollipop brand in Australia?
Chupa Chups is the most recognised lollipop brand in Australia and our top-selling stick lolly. For nostalgia, Ring Pop, Push Pop and Jolly Rancher are popular imports. Best depends on use case: party bags lean Chupa Chups, birthday centrepieces lean Big Baby Pop or giant novelty, gag-gift shoppers go for Hotlix scorpion or Warheads.
Are Chupa Chups halal?
Chupa Chups is made by Perfetti Van Melle, which publishes ingredient lists on-pack. Most standard stick flavours contain no gelatine or alcohol, but halal certification varies by country and batch. Always check the ingredient panel on the wrapper, or contact Perfetti Van Melle Australia for certified confirmation on a specific flavour.
Can lollipops be sent in party bags?
Yes – individually wrapped stick lollipops are one of the safest party-bag fillers. Every Chupa Chups, Ring Pop, Push Pop and Sweetworld pop we stock comes sealed in its own wrapper. For kids under 4, parents usually prefer mini formats like Heart Pops over larger giant pops.
What’s the biggest lollipop at SweetsWorld?
Our largest format is the Sweetworld Lollipops Tub 1.6kg, which contains 200 individual lollipops – ideal for classrooms, lolly buffets or weddings. For a single giant lollipop, the Big Baby Pop 30g and Paint Splash Pop 39g are our heaviest single-unit pops. The Chupa Chups XXL Trio 29g is the largest Chupa Chups we stock.
Are lollipops gluten-free?
Most hard-candy stick lollipops are naturally gluten-free because they’re made from sugar, glucose syrup and flavouring. Chupa Chups, Ring Pop and standard swirly pops generally do not contain gluten. Filled or chew-style pops may include gluten. Always check the allergen statement on each wrapper before ordering for coeliac guests.
Where can I buy Ring Pops in Australia?
Ring Pops are harder to find in mainstream Aussie supermarkets. SweetsWorld stocks the classic 14g Ring Pop Lollipop plus the novelty Alien Ring Pop – both shipped from our Newcastle NSW warehouse. Order online for Australia-wide delivery, with free shipping on orders over AU$80.
What are sour lollipops?
Sour lollipops have either a sour-coated exterior (citric or malic acid crystals on the candy shell) or a sour filling inside. Warheads Super Sour Bubble Gum Pop and Jumbo Push Pop Candy are the sourest we stock. Lucas Muecas Mango and Chamoy are Mexican-style pops with chamoy (sweet-sour-spicy sauce) dip.
