Aussie Witchetty Grubs are a yellow and white jelly based confectionery in the shape of a worm – with a smiling face. They are a similar consistency to the old fashion milk bottles and teeth.
These taste similar to ice cream cones but are less cute and more insect-y.
You will get 30 worms in 100g and they contain glucose syrup, gelatine, dextrine, flavours, soy protein, salt, colours, water. They are suitable for gluten, dairy, and nut free dietary constraints/choices.
For those of you outside Australia, a witchetty grub (also spelled witchety grub or witjuti grub) is a term used here for the large, white, wood-eating larvae of several moths. It particularly applies to the larvae of the cossid moth (Endoxyla leucomochla), which feeds on the roots of the Witchetty bush (named after the grub) that is found in central Australia. The grub is the most important insect food in the desert. Edible either raw or lightly cooked in hot ashes, they are sought out as a high-protein food by indigenous Australians.
Lolly witchetty grubs don’t need to be cooked (and I don’t think they could be considered a source of protein) but they are still delicious and fun! Why not try some today?
