Three makers cover most of the pistachio and knafeh range we carry.

What is Dubai chocolate?

Dubai chocolate is a thick milk chocolate bar with a nut-forward filling. It was created by Sarah Hamouda for her Dubai brand Fix Dessert Chocolatier in 2021, then went global in late 2024 after a viral TikTok review by Maria Vehera. European, Turkish and Middle Eastern chocolatiers now make their own version, which is why you see several brands under one category.

The bar keeps its identity through three signature components:

  • Pistachio cream — smooth, slightly sweet, the flavour headliner.
  • Knafeh (kadayif) — toasted shredded filo pastry for the audible crunch.
  • Milk chocolate shell — thick casing, usually 35g to 200g per bar.

Dubai chocolate FAQs

Short answers to the questions we get most.

What is Dubai chocolate made of?

A milk chocolate shell, pistachio cream and crispy toasted knafeh (shredded filo pastry, also spelled kadayif). Some versions swap in white chocolate, hazelnut paste or Biscoff.

Who invented it?

Sarah Hamouda of Fix Dessert Chocolatier, Dubai, in 2021. The bar went viral worldwide in late 2024 after a TikTok review by Maria Vehera.

Can I buy Dubai chocolate in Australia?

Yes. We stock Brugge, Dima’s, Beemax, Beyoğlu Dubaco and Gusto and ship Australia-wide from our Maitland NSW warehouse. The original Fix bar is not officially distributed here.

How should I store it?

Cool, dry, below 20°C, out of sunlight. In summer the fridge is fine — rest the bar 15 minutes at room temperature before eating so the knafeh keeps its crunch.

Does it make a good gift?

Yes. A 200g bar works as a novelty gift on its own, or pair one with a chocolate gift box or a mix from our Australian lollies for a contrast of flavours.

What’s inside a Dubai chocolate bar?

A classic Dubai chocolate bar is a thick milk chocolate shell filled with smooth pistachio cream and crispy toasted knafeh (shredded filo pastry strands, also spelled kadayif). Some makers add sesame or tahini for depth, and a few premium bars use dark chocolate or white chocolate instead of milk. Texture is the point: soft cream plus audible crunch.

Why is Dubai chocolate so expensive?

Pistachio is one of the more expensive nuts globally, and the filling is typically 40–50% pistachio cream. Add imported knafeh, small-batch production, and freight from the Middle East or Europe, and the cost stacks up quickly. Resellers also mark up scarcity when bars go viral. Our pricing reflects the landed cost, not a viral resale premium.

Where can I buy Dubai chocolate in Australia?

SweetsWorld ships Dubai chocolate bars Australia-wide from our Newcastle NSW warehouse. Orders to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra, Hobart and Darwin all ship via Australia Post with tracking. Most metro orders arrive in 2–5 business days, and dispatch is usually within 1 business day of order.

Do Woolworths, Coles or Aldi sell Dubai chocolate?

Supply is patchy at the major supermarkets. Woolworths, Coles and Aldi occasionally carry a Dubai-style bar (most often a Lindt version or an in-house interpretation) but stock disappears fast and the range rotates. If you want the dedicated brands — Brugge, Dima’s, Beemax, Beyoğlu — a specialty shop like SweetsWorld is the reliable option.

Does Lindt make a Dubai chocolate bar?

Yes. Lindt released a pistachio + kadayif Dubai-style bar in 2024 which sold through AU supermarkets in limited drops. We do not currently stock the Lindt version at SweetsWorld — our Dubai range focuses on the original Middle-East and European makers (Brugge, Dima’s, Beemax, Beyoğlu, Gusto) that started the category.
